Here are seven features that we would want to see integrated into Google's upcoming Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones.

 


The fact that Apple, Google, and Samsung control the majority of the smartphone market in the United States compels the rest of the industry to pause what it is doing and pay attention whenever one of them announces new hardware. Apple, Google, and Samsung all have flagship models that are among the most expensive smartphones on the market. This year, Samsung kicked off the year with the introduction of its Galaxy S22 series in February. The company then followed that up with the introduction of new versions of its Galaxy Z Flip and Fold devices in early August. It is expected that Apple will unveil the iPhone 14 family at some point during the first week of September. After then, the responsibility for responding will shift to Google. The launch of the Pixel 7 series by the company is something that we believe will take place some time between the end of September and the beginning of October. Keeping in mind that this launch is drawing closer, we have compiled a list of seven items that we wish Google would bestow upon its loyal Pixel users:

Enhanced Capability for Intracellular and Intercellular Communication

In spite of the fact that all three of Google's Pixel 6 models—the Pixel 6, the Pixel 6 Pro, and the Pixel 6a—are outstanding smartphones, practically all reviews—including ours—have criticized them for having insufficient cellular connectivity. Your phone's primary function should be, as its name implies, to make phone calls, and it should be able to do so very effectively. In order to get ahead of this problem, we have great hopes that Google will make significant modem advancements in the near future. We have great expectations that Google would follow suit and choose either the more modern Snapdragon X70 or Qualcomm's outstanding X65 modem, which is already included in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1 platforms. Both of these modems are already a part of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1 platforms. The vast majority of high-end smartphones already include this modem in their internal components. We believe that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro relied on Samsung's Exynos 5123 modem in its Tensor SoC; hence, it is relatively ambiguous as to whether or not Google would switch modem providers.

Improvements to Bluetooth's Capabilities and Performance

The Bluetooth performance of Google's Pixel 6 smartphones wasn't bad by any means, but it also wasn't particularly impressive by any stretch of the imagination. You might notice a reoccurring problem with headphones losing connectivity if you spend a significant amount of time reading user complaints about the Pixel 6, such as this one or this one. There have been several reports made regarding this issue. We would want to see more stable Bluetooth connectivity from the Pixel family in light of the fact that Bluetooth headphones are so popular—so popular, in fact, that Google sells its own version of Pixel Buds—and because of how popular Bluetooth headphones are. Additionally, we anticipate that Google will incorporate compatibility with Bluetooth version 5.3 into the products in order to ensure that they are as future-proof as is practically possible. In particular, we would want to see support for the new Bluetooth Low Energy audio standard as well as the LC3 Bluetooth codec. Both of these technologies have the potential to decrease the amount of power that is used while also improving the sound quality.

Even though all of Google's Pixel 6 family of devices can be purchased unlocked, it would be ideal if AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon (in addition to any of the popular MVNOs) sold the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro directly to consumers. Customers might perhaps receive improved offers from their various carriers, and as a consequence, Google could potentially attain greater popularity in the mainstream.

We would be content with an increase to 45W or 50W for the Pixel 7, despite the fact that it would make us drool if Google pushed for speeds of 100W or more.

Foldable Design

We are known that Google at the very least has an interest in foldable smartphones, but there is no concrete indication as to when the company plans to bring a foldable mobile to market. Because Samsung has made significant enhancements to the foldable Galaxy Z series this year, we believe that the current time could be the ideal time for Google to release a foldable smartphone with a lower price point. The reason for this belief is that Samsung has released a foldable version of its Galaxy Z series. On the other hand, it is quite unlikely that such a gadget will be commercially available during this calendar year.
