The coolest PC gear we saw at CES 2022
Throughout
the course of the event, various speakers, including Nikki Reed, an actress and
environmental activist; Jeff Clark, Vice Chairman of Products and Operations at
Dell; Chris Walker, Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Client
Platforms at Intel; and Frank Azor, Vice President and General Manager of
Alienware, Dell Gaming, and XPS, took the stage to share their insights.
The XPS
2-in-1 notebook with a 15-inch screen was one of the most important pieces of
hardware announced. This 2-in-1 convertible laptop boasts the thinnest profile
of any device of its kind now available on the market, in spite of the fact
that it possesses discrete graphics and the most recent eighth-generation
processors from Intel. Despite the fact that systems with a screen size of 15
inches present challenges when it comes to portability and operating in tablet
mode, Dell's XPS 15 does just about as excellent a job as is humanly possible
to make a huge screen useable in a form size of that magnitude.
After
that, Dell moved on to talk about non-system news, such as their recently
released software called Mobile Connect, which I had the opportunity to test
out at a preview event hosted in New York City approximately a month ago. You
will also have the option to mirror the display of an entire program onto the
screen of your personal computer. This feature offers iOS-to-Mac capabilities
for phone messaging, which enables your alerts to be read and responded to on
your Dell PC. It is not quite as fluid as Apple's system, but it does provide a
solution that has been lacking in the Windows environment for some time, and it
functions extremely well. Although it is not quite as seamless as Apple's
system, it is still very impressive. Despite the fact that it is not quite as
fluid as the approach that Apple uses. It is compatible with mobile devices
based on both the iOS and Android operating systems, and it comes pre-installed
on each Dell PC you purchase.
In
addition, Dell took the time to talk about the significance of sustainability
as well as the company's efforts to reclaim gold from motherboards and other
components in order to recycle materials that would otherwise be thrown away.
This was done in an effort to reduce the amount of material that is wasted. She
also unveiled the Circular Collection by Bayou with Love, a jewelry line that
is crafted from these reclaimed minerals. Nikki Reed revealed that each year,
the technology industry throws out gold and silver worth a combined total of
$60 million. Jewelry from these recovered minerals is used to create the pieces
that are part of Bayou with Love's Circular Collection. Dell has a number of
programs that encourage individuals to reuse, rather than dispose of, their
outdated technology, and these programs are available to the general public.
The nonprofit organization Goodwill and technology company Dell have
collaborated on one of these programs.
Continuing
on with the subject of software, we discussed Dell Cinema, which is an
audio-visual solution that provides customers with the ability to acquire the
finest possible sound and look from their equipment. This includes CinemaColor,
which decodes and displays high dynamic range (HDR) streamed content with more
detail; CinemaSound, which focuses on louder volumes and better audio quality;
and CinemaStream, which is a technology powered by Killer and SmartByte that
improves online streaming by reducing buffering and keeping the resolution
high. Each of these technologies is described in more detail below. CinemaColor
is capable of decoding and displaying high dynamic range (HDR) content with
increased levels of granularity. CinemaSound prioritizes higher volume levels
in addition to improved audio quality.
Moving on
to the realm of gaming, Frank Azor made a brief mention of a brand new Inspiron
desktop computer that retails for just $799 and is equipped with virtual
reality capabilities. In addition, Alienware spent some of its time
demonstrating its newly launched Command Center software, which provides a
unified gaming client. This software was only recently made available. It is able
to pull your game libraries from Steam and other clients into its interface,
making everything show in one location instead of multiple places. In addition
to that, the user interface was developed in a very organized fashion. Here,
you won't need to make use of a plethora of different apps because you'll be
able to control not only the system but also the lighting in the surrounding
area.
Alienware
continued by discussing their connection with the eSports organization Team
Liquid, which is one of the largest in the world. This was done in order to
maintain the theme of gaming throughout the presentation. Alienware and Liquid
have made a public announcement regarding the opening of the Alienware eSports
Training Facility in the city of Los Angeles. The Liquid players will have
access to the facility, which is 8,000 square feet in size, for the purposes of
practicing and playing scrimmages. The training facility will not only have
designated spaces for the coaches and analysts, but it will also have a chef, sports
psychologists, and nutritionists working full-time there.
The
expansive conference, which, contrary to what one might think, focused less on
systems than other topics, was used to demonstrate the breadth of Dell's
strategy. It is obvious that the previous acquisition of Alienware made gaming
a clear pillar of the business; however, additions such as Mobile Connect and
Dell Cinema are looking beyond thinner laptops and sharper screens. The company
that focuses on personal computers wants to have a presence in every industry.
Even Alienware spends its time working on software and esports initiatives
rather than developing new flashy laptops.Dell will continue to produce new
hardware every year, but the company is also expanding into new areas, improving
or adding software features, and building something that may one day be its own
ecosystem within the Windows platform.Alienware spends its time working on
